...the champagne of beers

One of our favorite local restaurants is the Back Eddy on the banks of the Westport River.

Obviously, the riverfront ambience provides the main draw.

As a mostly summer seafood establishment, the feel is casual and vacation-like.

I always order the shore dinner -- a quart of steamed clams with a small lobster.

Their clam chowder, in a light broth, makes a good appetizer.

And to wash it all down with? Narragansett Beer.

I had thought this beer to be extinct -- gone the way of Colt 45 and Pabst Blue Ribbon. But it has maintained a habitat at the Back Eddy in king size cans.

Once the proud sponsor of Wide World of Sports and Saturday morning wrestling, it has retired in obscurity to the banks of the Westport River.
